Google says it’s bringing offline support for Google Play Movies to Chrome OS within the next few weeks. That means users will be able to download movies and TV shows and watch them on a Chromebook or Chromebox even without an active internet connection.
Play Movies already offers offline support for Android. But the upcoming support for Chrome OS will help remove one of the early criticisms of Chrome OS: that this browser-based operating system is only good for laptops that become bricks as soon as you board an airplane, enter a subway station, or visit another area that has poor internet connectivity.
Most Chromebooks have a 16 GB solid state drive, of which 10 GB is normally free. A standard definition 2-hour movie from Google Play downloaded on my tablet is usually 600 MB. So yes, a Chromebook should be able to hold at least 6-7 movies for offline play.
Acer made a Chromebook with a 320gb HHD. It was an older model though.
I think that is convenient. Can a Chromebook or Chromebox have enough memory to hold a movie? Perhaps if one could download it to a SD card (some are getting quite big in memory size)? Perhaps one could start a SD card movie collection? Perhaps to a flash drive? (some are also really big in memory size). Perhaps have a flash drive move collection?
