NVIDIA’s next-generation Tegra chip for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices is due out in 2013. While the chip maker hasn’t said much about the new processor, code-named “Wayne,” the folks at Chip Hell came across a leaked product slide which may spill a few details.
The Wayne processor is said to feature 4-plus-1 processor cores, much like the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. That means it’s basically a quad-core chip with an extra low-power companion core which kicks in for basic, low-level functions.
What’s new is the graphics area of the chip, which will reportedly have 72 cores and offer 6 times the performance of Tegra 3, and 20 times the performance of a Tegra 2 chip.
NVIDIA is also moving from an ARM Cortex-A9 design to a faster ARM Cortex-A15 “Eagle” design.
The upcoming processor can handle devices with 2560 x 1600 pixel displays, and may even be able to handle 4K displays.
I’d be kind of surprised if we didn’t hear something about the new processors at CES in January.

Sounds awesome to me.
I had a Tegra 2 tablet and have a Tegra 3 tablet now.
The thing is fast, stable and I love it!
I don’t really see the reason that some people hate on the Tegra stuff so much.
Time to start building reasonably priced laptops around ARM. Intel and their Ultrabooks aren’t needed or wanted.
What are the power consumption levels on the Tegra 3 (idle, average and peak)? Were those lower power consumption claims with more cores plus the companion core turn out to be true? At least compared to a dual core Android device.

“Last month TI announced it was the first to license ARM’s next-generation Eagle core. Today, ARM is announcing the official name of that core: it’s the ARM Cortex A15.”
“It’s still not clear if the Wayne processor is based on an ARM Cortex-A9
design” On the image it says CPU Quad Core Eagle, the Eagle ARM chip is the Cortex-A15
Nice catch. Thanks!
Eagle is the codename for Cortex-A15
