Like the idea of Amazon Prime, but don’t like the idea of spending $99 in advance for a full 1-year membership? Now there are two other options.
Now Amazon is letting you pay $10.99 per month for Amazon Prime or $8.99 per month just for Amazon Prime Video.
Either way, if you end up keeping your membership for 12 months you’ll end up spending more money than you would if you just paid $99 up front, because that breaks down to $8.25 per month. But the new offer could come in handy if you’d rather break your payments into smaller chunks or if you plan to cancel after a few months.
A few weeks ago Amazon and Sprint announced a partnership that lets customers pay for Amazon Prime monthly, and there have been some limited trials of similar plans in previous years. But this is the first time that monthly membership plans are available more widely.
Here’s one of the most tempting things about the new plan: you could sign up for a few months of binge-watching, then cancel your plan and then spend your money on Netflix, Hulu, or another service that has shows you want to binge. You could end up spending around $100 per year on all of your streaming video needs instead of spending $100 per service for two or three different ones.
Of course, Amazon also offers a free 30-day trial of Prime membership. If you haven’t already signed up for and then subsequently canceled an Amazon Prime membership, you can get through a lot of binge-watching in 30 days.
But Amazon Prime is more than just movies and TV shows. Amazon’s membership program got its start as a service that offered free 2-day shipping on many items and the full Prime membership still includes that perk for millions of items. It also gets you access to Amazon Prime music streaming, Amazon Kindle Owners’ Lending library for eBooks, free same-day delivery on some items, and a few others benefits that help justify the additional price.
Now I have to go do some math to decide if I take advantage of those perks often enough to justify continuing to pay for both Amazon Prime and Netflix year-round.
If amazon wont cancel just call your visa representative and tell them to stop payment problem solved !
Nice that the monthly pricing isn’t just for Sprint customers anymore. But I still prefer NewEgg Premier because they have free shipping on returns. Amazon Prime doesn’t.
I like it. We don’t want or need an annual Amazon Prime membership but there’s a couple times a year I do want something fast and the shipping is already greater than 10.99– I would sign up for a month instead.
Yeah, and good luck trying to cancel. You can be sure Amazon is going to make that process as painful as possible.

Plus free audio streaming, android apps and photo storage. I think it’s the best bargain going – it was worth it just for the free two day shipping!
I wish I could pay for just the prime shipping, since I already have Netflix. Their video selections suck under prime – pretty much everything is already on Netflix, or they want you to pay per episode, or both.

Back before they had Prime Video, the Prime service cost $79 a year, so you wouldn’t be saving that much. And while I largely agree with you on Prime Video, it does have some things that are good, AND there’s also Prime Music, which is probably worth more than the movies, IMHO.
