The Nexus 5X smartphone has an amazing camera, decent battery life, a speedy fingerprint scanner, and support for stock Android software delivered straight from Google.
But the $379 smartphone doesn’t have all the features available on the more expensive Google Nexus 6P: there’s no support for image stabilization and the cheaper phone has only a mono speaker instead of stereo speakers.
It turns out there is a way to get stereo sound without connecting a headset though. Xda-developers forum member sshafranko has come up with a method for cranking up the volume on the phone’s handset speaker, essentially letting you get sound from two different speakers on the phone at once.
Keep in mind that the handset speaker is designed to be used differently from the phone’s main speaker, so the audio quality might not be quite as good. But if you flash sshafranko’s software on the phone, you’ll hear sound coming from two speakers rather than one when listening to music, watching videos, or even hearing ring tones.
Wait, no electric spoon rest? What kind of smart phone is this?
Doesn’t sound like it would be stereo sound, from the description. It’s probably still a mono stream, but just played through both speakers to make it louder.
Is there any real benefit to stereo if the speakers are so close together? In any case, stereo speakers are clearly not on my list of must have items in a smartphone.
