NEC has confirmed plans to launch a dual screen Android tablet at CES in January. As expected, the machine will be part of the company’s Cloud Communicator tablet line, and will feature two 7 inch touchscreen displays, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G capabilities, and a stylus for input (I haven’t seen any information on whether the displays will feature resistive or capacitive touch technology).

Probably the coolest feature is the ability to run different apps simultaneously on each LCD display. That’s something NEC says is an industry first, although it’s not that different from the new Eden interface Notion Ink is showing off for its Adam tablet. While the Notion Ink tablet has just a single screen, it features panels letting you view three different apps side by side on the same screen.

NEC will also be showing off its single screen Cloud Communicator which launched in Japan last month. The company is also introducing its new “andronavi” store for Android apps and media including content tailored for a Japanese market including Manga.

An NEC rep tells me that the company does plan to offer the dual screen tablet in the US at some point, but the release date hasn’t been set yet. We might know more once CES begins.
