The MSI Wind U123 netbook is a lot like the MSI Wind U100, or any other machine with a 10 inch display and 1.66GHz Intel Atom CPU for that matter. So when the folks at NetbookUsers uploaded the official demo video for the netbook I wasn’t expecting to see much new. But the video does give you a nice look at the keyboard, computer chassis, and one of the few features that really does set this netbook apart: Facial recognition software that lets you login by pointing the webcam at your face. If you ask me, a good password is a lot easier to use, but that might just be me.

The facial recognition should be in the background and should be a fail-safe. People can copy your password and people can copy you face, but to do both might be harder. ANd harder still to fake a half dozen other markers.
That is the only ‘point’ of this tech really. An entire suite of passive identifiations checks should be occurring on your desktop computer all the time. Face, voice, and smell, temperature should all be evaluated to make sure you are who you say you are, but also to check up on you. Sure, a netbook with very little processing power to spare wasting time on all of that would make less sense; but your frigging Dual Core….what is your computer doing anyway except twiddling its thumbs?
