It’s no secret that MSI is working on a slate PC or two. The company had a few tablets on-hand at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. But that was before Apple released its 800-pound gorilla called the iPad. While HP may be shuffling around its tablet plans, it looks like MSI is still on track to release a few devices in this space. Digitimes reports that the company will showcase a Winodws 7 tablet at the Computex Trade show in June.
The MSI Slatebook will reportedly have an Intel Atom Z-series Menlow processor, a 10 inch touchscreen display, and integrated WiFi and 3G. It’s expected to sell for under $500, although there’s still no word on a release date. Like the Apple iPad, the MSI Slate will be able to read eBooks, and DigiTimes says that MSI is working on deals with content providers for books and software.
The tablet MSI was showing off at CES used NVIDIA’s Tegra platform and ran Google Android. It looks like MSI is still considering bringing a Tegra-based device to market, but the company hasn’t officially decided.
The only reason I would buy a windows slate device is for inking in Onenote. If it can’t dothat, I’ll get a mobile/touch OS and enjoy a longer battery life
Huh, what a shame, the Tegra and Android tablet looked nice. I have absolutely no interest in a desktop OS on a touch device… I hope people actually use them before buying them. I’d hate for them to pre-order one then realize what they’ve gotten themselves into.
I would definitely consider a Win7 tablet if battery life is reasonable 7+ hours and/or has quick recharge (like the new thin Toshiba netbook)–90% full charge in 10 minutes.
I also think and Win7 tablet MUST have an optical (or back pad) mouse.
