eee bike mount

Want a navigation system for your bike, or want to help create maps for others to use? Why not mount a netbook to your handlebars? It won’t take up any more space than a basket used to carry groceries, and the project will give you a lot more geek cred than a silly old basket.

Instructables has a set of, well, instructions for creating a bike mount for an Asus Eee PC 701, one of the smaller netbooks around. You can often pick up a used or refurbish model for well under $200. Another nice feature of the Eee PC 701 is that it uses solid state storage, which means there are no moving parts to break if your computer happens to fall on the pavement. Of course, the screen and plastic case can still crack.

The project requires a bit of woodworking knowledge, but the end result is a sturdy, if not particularly attractive, netbook mount.

  1. i think its funny how there is a cool piece of technology connected to a old crappy bike. it doesn’t make sense to me.
well i guess u could connect it to a motorcycle but thats probably suicide if u wanted to attempt to look at a gps while driving. its probably a whole lot worse than talking on a cell phone while driving too. at least u have music!

  2. This will:

    a) get your netbook stolen
    b) cause you to crash because you are not looking where you are going.
    C) both a and b

  3. Not sure that being the last thing you see before your fatal bike crash is a good thing. Folks don’t toss a display on the driver part of a bike, displays are for side-cars not the drivers seat.

Whoever made that should be publicly whipped then left hanging off the pillory for a few hours of deep thought.
