Motorola XOOM 2 tablets

Motorola might need to hire a roofer, because the company seems to have a few leaks at the moment. This weekend the folks at Droid Life, The Verge and Engadget have been one-upping each other left and right with photos and details about two upcoming tablets from the big M.

  1. Droid Life – first pictures
  2. The Verge – 10 inch tablet specs
  3. The Verge – Oh yeah, there’s an 8 inch model too
  4. Engadget – Hey would you like some photos?
  5. Engadget – How about a few more?

The Motorola XOOM was the first tablet to feature Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb when it launched in February. But it’s starting to look a bit… mundane now that Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Samsung, and other companies also have 10 inch Honeycomb tablets with dual core processors and 1280 x 800 pixel displays.

So it looks like Motorola’s next entries into the tablet space will provide a little something different. We still don’t have any specific details on the processors, but it appears that one of Motorola’s new tablets will have an 8.2 inch display while the other will have a 10.1 inch screen.

Both tablets will measure about 9mm thick, run Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb. They’ll each have 5MP rear-facing cameras and IR remote control features. They’ll also reportedly both offer 4G LTE mobile broadband options.

The 10 inch tablet will reportedly have an 11 hour battery, 1080p HD video recording capabilities, and a 1.2 GHz dual core processor.

The 8.2 inch version will apparently be called the XOOM 2 Media Edition and weigh about 0.95 pounds.

  1. i don’t understand why all media types cannot take a 1 minute extra and clean the screens before taking pictures for the worls to see.

Those blunted corners are not attractive at all.

  2. I wonder if they are going to customize Android this time, because the back, home and running apps buttons look different from the current version.  I also wonder if the angular shape is to avoid what Samsung is going through with Apple.

A while back I heard Motorola was one of the companies with Tegra3.  Hopefully they use a chip that is significantly better than the current one.

11 hours of battery is just 1 hour more than the current Xoom, but that’s pretty good given that it’s thinner too.  I hope they don’t sacrifice build quality and materials to make it thinner.
