Motorola’s 2022 Moto G 5G and Moto G Stylus 5G are mid-range phones with high refresh rates

Motorola is refreshing its Moto G line of mid-range smartphones with a new Moto G 5 (2022) sporting a 6.5 inch HD+ display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, and a new Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) with a bigger, higher-res 6.8 inch FHD+ 120 Hz display.

In case the name wasn’t a giveaway, the larger model also comes with a stylus that fits inside the phone for safe keeping when you’re not using it. Keep in mind that this is a capacitive stylus rather than a pressure-sensitive pen, so while it makes writing and drawing easier, don’t expect it to support features like hovering, tilt detection, or shading.

The new Moto G Stylus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor and supports up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone ships with Android 12 software, features a 5,000 mAh battery, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and has four rear cameras including a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultrawide.

It’s up for pre-order now for $500 and the phone will be available starting April 28, 2022.

If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, the Moto G Stylus (2022) is already available with prices starting at under $300 for a 4G-only phone with a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and support for 4G LTE networks.

The new Moto G 5G, meanwhile, is a little more affordable with a $400 starting price. But it has a lower-resolution display, a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, a macro camera instead of an ultra-wide, and the phone tops out at 6GB of RAM. It’s also not available just yet – Motorola says the Moto 5 5G (2022) will be available starting May 19, 2022.
