One of the most intriguing features of Motorola’s new Moto Z line of smartphones is their support for snap-on modules that extend the functionality of the phones.
Called MotoMods, these modules can add extra battery power, high-quality speakers, and even digital projectors to your phone. But if the prices for the first few MotoMods are anything to go by, these accessories won’t be cheap.
Verizon has started showing prices for a few MotoMods, and they range from $79.99 to $299.
Spotted by redditor Justahumananimal, some prices can be spotted in the My Verizon app, while at least one is visible on the Verizon website. Here’s what we know so far:
- Tumi Style Shell – $70
- Kate Spade New York Style Shell – $80
- JBL SoundBoost – $80
- Power Pack – $90
- Tumi Wireless Charging Power Pack – $100
- Insta-Share Projector – $299
Future MotoMods could include modules that add a high-quality camera with an optical zoom lens, an Adventure Mod which makes the phone waterproof, and a OneCompute Mod which lets you connect the phone to a keyboard, mouse, and display to use it like a desktop PC. There’s no word on how much those modules will cost.
To be fair, the MotoMod prices aren’t much different from what you’d pay for a high-quality Bluetooth speaker or battery case, and their ability to magnetically snap onto the back of the phone could make them a lot more convenient.
But they still ain’t exactly cheap.
