While some phone makers only offer a stylus with high-end smartphones, Motorola has been selling a line of mid-range Moto G Stylus handsets for years for folks willing to sacrifice specs (and some stylus functionality) in pursuit of a more affordable price tag.

This year’s Moto G Stylus (2022) ups the ante in some key areas: it has a more RAM, a bigger battery, an updated camera system and a higher screen refresh rate than last year’s model, while keeping the same $300 price tag. But Motorola also swapped out a mid-range Qualcomm processor for a mid-range MediaTek chip, which could be more of a lateral move.

Motorola is taking orders for the new Moto G Stylus now and expects to begin shipping the phone February 17, 2022.

  1. Moto phones seem to always drop in February here in the U.S. The G Stylus is the only new phone so far this month. The screen is too big for me on this one, and so is the price. But the price will drop with time. I consider this a $250 USD phone unlocked. No 5G, no NFC. That’s fine with me, I always pay with cash and 5G is too expensive to use and chews up battery life. The Moto g Power used to be the sweet spot, but then they dropped the screen resolution to 720 x 1600, so that’s a no buy.

  2. Even a midrange CPU can run stock android fine these days. The other specs look great though.

Don’t need a stylus, is an update to the Power expected soon as well?

  3. This isn’t a pressure sensitive stylus, is it? It’s basically just a finger extension?

      1. Thanks for the info 👍 I still find it weird that their one phone with active pen support, the Z4, was never marketed as a stylus phone. IIRC they even removed mention of the feature from their product page shortly after release.
