Android is about to get (unofficial) support for running nearly any app in a window, sort of the way you would on… Windows. Intel’s upcoming tablet chip gets benchmarked. And the next-generation Google Nexus 7 is coming soon. We think.

Chuwi and Rockchip multi-window apps

Here’s a look back at some of the most popular stories from Liliputing from the week of July 13th through the 19th.

  • Multi-window support coming to some Android tablets
The line between Android and Windows is starting to look slimmer and slimmer. New software which appears to be coming from the folks at Chinese chip maker Rockchip lets you run any Android app in a resizeable window that you can move anywhere on the screen you’d like. This might not make a ton of sense for tablet users, but it could really come in handy for Android laptops or TV box/mini computers.
  • Intel Atom Z3770 Bay Trail chip specs, performance leaked
Benchmarks don’t always tell the full story, but in this case the partial story they tell is that Bay Trail chips for tablets will be among the fastest tom processors to date. But they may not be as powerful as recent entry-level chips from AMD.
  • Rumor/leak: Google’s next-gen Nexus 7 coming July 24th
Google’s probably going to announce a new 7 inch tablet soon. Asus is probably building it. The tablet will probably run Android 4.3. It might have a higher-resolution screen. It’ll probably have wireless charging. We’ll know more soon.
  • Simple fix for MK802 IV Android mini PC WiFi performance
Have a Rikomagic MK802 IV Android TV stick that’s suffering from lousy WiFi performance. You might need to crack open the case and move the antenna. This is actually a suggestion from Rikomagic. Your results may vary.
  • Utilite ARM-based Linux computer coming in August for $99 and up
The Compulab Utilte is a small, cheap desktop computer designed to run Ubuntu and Android. It’s powered by a Freescale i.MX6 processor, and it’s due out next month.
  • Cube introduces U39GT tablet with 9 inch, full HD display
What happens if you take a NOOK HD+ style high-res display, cram it in an Android tablet with a Rockchip RK3188 processor and 2GB of RAM, and sell it for around $230? We’re about to find out.
  • Microsoft takes a $900 million hit for unsold Surface RT tablets
Microsoft put a lot of time and effort into developing a version of Windows that can run on devices with ARM-based chips. Then it built a tablet to run the operating system. Now it’s still desperately trying to get people to buy that tablet.
  • Nuvola NP-1 is a $299 Android media player with a Tegra 4 chip
Android TV boxes from relatively unknown Chinese companies tend to sell for around $100 or less. But they also don’t tend to have NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors or support for 4K Ultra HD movies. Nanotech is hoping those features are enough to get you to shell out $299 for the Nuvola NP-1.
