Touchless computer controllers may be the next big thing in technology. Google’s Project Soli reveal last week is evidence of the possibilities that lay ahead. However, Google isn’t alone in its quest for more gesture-based technology.

Moky is a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard with an infrared sensor that allows the user to perform trackpad-style gestures above the keys, so you don’t have to move your hands away from the keyboard to scroll, zoom, or click.

The Seoul, South Korea based company is seeking crowdfunding via IndiGoGo for mass production.

Moky

You can support the campaign by pledging $69 for a keyboard today, but it’s not expected to ship until October. .

The idea behind Moky is that it is an all-in-one keyboard. No need to carry around a keyboard and mouse. No need to have a giant keyboard with a separate track pad.

The Bluetooth connected device allows users to type like normal, and then activate the infrared sensors using a button at the bottom. When activated, you will then be able to select objects by dragging and tapping, left and right-click (with compatible devices), and pinch in or out to zoom. The optical touch pad covers the entire keyboard to make it easier to perform gestures.

The company has already created a working prototype of the Moky to demonstrate that the technology is real. However, how it works in “the wild” is probably quite a different experience.

The IndieGoGo campaign has surpassed its original goal by more than $25,000 in just over a week. The two early bird pledges of $49 and $59 are both sold out already. However, you can still get in on the action for a pledge of $69 for one Moky keyboard.

  1. Trackballs are disappearing, if this can replicate the experience of trackballs, I will buy.

  2. In the video, the creator said “We found the keyboard and mouse are never used simultaneously”. I like the idea but I can’t use moky at all. I am constantly using my touchpad and keyboard simultaneously when using photoshop, blender, when and playing video games.

    1. Thank you Zackery Ward. You are pointing very important weekness of Moky. We are working very hard to minimize that. One of our effort is to locate additional key sets such as ‘shift, cntl, alt keys to allow people use that keys simultaneously with touchpad for most popular use of mobile devices. Please advise us if there are necessary hot keys that Moky needs for great use. Thank you for your opinion.

      1. Ctrl, alt, and shift… and many of us use the touchpad while we’re using alt tab (and alt shift tab)

        1. At this moment, Moky is developing for normal tablet PC users for simple documentation work. We will study your opinion for next product. I really thank you.
