Microsoft has launched the most affordable smartphone running Windows Phone software to date.

The Lumia 435 is a phone with a 4 inch display, a dual-core processor, and Windows Phone 8.1 software. It has a list price of 69 Euros, which is about $81 US.

While the Lumia 435 isn’t the most powerful phone on the market, it has a few nice features including free maps and navigation from HERE Maps, and Microsoft’s mobile version of Office which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook.

The phone has a 4 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of removable storage.

There’s a 2MP fixed focus rear camera and a 0.3MP front-facing camera, and the phone has a 1560 mAh battery for up to 11.7 hours of talk time.

Microsoft will offer single SIM or dual SIM variants, and the phone supports 3G GSM networks.

The phone will be available in white, black, green, and orange colors when it launches in February in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. There’s no word on if or when you’ll be able to buy one in the United States.

Microsoft is also updating its 500 Series phones with the new Lumia 532, which is a smaller version of the Lumia 535. most of the specs for the new phone are the same, but it has a 4 inch screen rather than a 5 inch display.

  1. I spent the last month using a Lumia 635 while my OnePlus One was being repaired. I really liked it! It was the cheapest smartphone at my local T-Mobile but it was so much better than some of the low-end Androids I’ve used. I think WP could really make a dent in the US through these affordable phones.

  2. 2MP rear camera and .3 MP front facing? Yikes! At least it had the FF camera, though. And the 1gig ram. This is about as low end as it gets, but it seems like a more acceptable compromise for the low end than some of the previous Nokia designs – *cough* 530 *cough*.

    1. Yeah, 530 wasnt the upgrade fo 520 people expected!
VGA front facing camera isnt much, if it had good low light performance, then perhaps yes.
IMHO 1Gb of RAM is plenty on W8 phones, I know that 512Mb is very usable on W8.

  3. At least it has 1 GB of RAM, the 512 MB Lumia 5xx series were a bit out of date by now.
