Microsoft launched Music Deals last month, offering a new crop of deeply discounted MP3 albums every week. Normally that means you can score one DRM-free album of music for $0.99 and about 100 more for $1.99 each.

But Microsoft is shaking things up a bit in time for the holidays: For the next 20 days you can get 100 albums for free… and that’s on top of the normal crop of deals… this week’s include 50 box sets for $1.99 each and each of those box sets includes at least a few album’s worth of material.

Unfortunately Music Deals promotions are only available in the United States and you’ll need a Windows 8.1 computer or Windows Phone device to get these deals.

But if you do meet one of those requirements, all you need to do is download the Windows or Windows Phone app or look for the promotion in the Xbox Music app on your computer or mobile device.

While the Holiday Freebies are pretty exciting, there are also some crazy good deals in the Box Sets category. For example you can get the complete studio recordings of the Grateful Dead (103 tracks) for $1.99, or The Complete Led Zeppelin with 165 tracks… also for just $1.99.

I spent $8 today and ended up downloading about 7GB of music.

Anyway, I added the promotion to our Black Friday roundup and today’s Daily Deals post… but I figured this deal was crazy enough to single out.

  1. Dang, the Zep compilation is back up to $100. I did buy six other comps, though, so I shouldn’t complain. That’s a LOT of music for the money, to say nothing of all the free albums on offer. (320kbps DRM-free mp3s, for those who are curious.)

  2. Quick question – are these DRM-free?

[edit] Duh, RTFA (read the f@$& article) – I see that they are. Nice!
