Microsoft’s Surface will become a real boy tablet in late October, debuting alongside Windows 8. And when it does become a reality it will have some useful accessories already lined up. The Windows Experience Blog went hands on with some new Bluetooth keyboards and mice designed specifically for Windows 8 and (of course) declared them awesome.

Wedge Mobile Keyboard

Of the two keyboards, the Wedge Mobile Keyboard is the more interesting for the mobile typer since it’s thin, straightforward, and the protective case doubles as a tablet stand.

This is a familiar concept, is it not? I’m a fan of the Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and stand, though it looks like the Wedge is a bit lighter and more compact.

The other keyboard on offer is the Sculpt Mobile Keyboard with a design reminiscent of Microsoft’s ergonomic keyboards. I feel like this one won’t travel as well as the Wedge given that it’s more awkward to slip in a small bag.

Both keyboards feature a Windows key with the new logo design that takes users back to the Start screen plus other useful hot keys and media controls. It’s what you’d expect from any decent Bluetooth keyboard made to work with a specific tablet, but appreciated nonetheless.

Still, Microsoft couldn’t have also come up with a folding keyboard? As thin and light as the Wedge is, it’s still pretty long. It would be nice to have something that tucked away a bit more.

Wedge Touch Mouse

Each of the keyboards has a companion mouse or two, also Bluetooth connectable. The Wedge Touch Mouse is a tiny thing with a design that seems like it might be comfortable once you get used to it. Though it could just as easily give you a hand cramp.

If you need something bigger, check out the Sculpt Touch Mouse or the Microsoft Touch Mouse, which is getting an update to make it more Windows 8-tastic.

Each of these mice will have 4-way touch scrolling for ease of navigation in Windows. The Microsoft Touch Mouse, which is currently available, will get an update when Windows 8 releases that adds new functionality to it. This means tons of gestures available at your fingertips and which may even rival the Magic Mouse from Apple.

Aside from the Touch Mouse the other accessories aren’t available yet but are up for pre-order on,, TigerDirect, and Visit the blog for pricing.
