Chinese phone maker Meizu’s latest phone probably has a higher resolution display than your phone (or tablet, or laptop): The Meizu MX4 Pro has a 5.5 inch, 2560 x 1536 pixel display.

But that’s not the only thing that makes this phone unusual. It also has just about every premium feature you can think of, including a speedy octa-core processor, lots of RAM, a high-resolution camera, and a big battery.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Samsung Exynos 5430 octa-core CPU (4 ARM Cortex-A15 and 4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores)
  • Mali-T628 graphics
  • 3GB RAM
  • 20.7MP Sony IMX220 camera sensor
  • 5MP front camera
  • 3350mAh battery
  • 802.11ac WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • NFC
  • 4G LTE (in China)
  • Fingerprint sensor

Meizu has also added something it calls “Retina Sound” which is just a fancy way of saying the phone has a high-quality digital-to-audio converter and amp for cleaner-sounding audio.

The phone measures 9mm (about 0.35 inches) thick and has screen bezels that are just 2.8mm (0.11 inches) thick).

Like other phones from Meizu (and a number of Chines device makers, for that matter), this a premium phone that’ll carry the kind of price you’d expect from a mid-range device in the West. Prices start at a little over $400 for an unlocked model with 16GB of storage.

The folks at GizChina and Mobile Geeks each got a chance to spend some time with the Meizu MX4 Pro, and have posted hands-on videos which you can check out below.

  1. T628 is weaker than 420/T760, and 420 can barely drive QHD at the same frame rate as 330 on 1080P.

At least rest of the specs (outside of SoC) appear top shape.

    1. Possibly the billions of people who don’t live in the US.

Only about 45 percent of Liliputing readers are based in the US… and Meizu has global ambitions, so while this phone may or may not make it outside of China, it’s likely that the company will eventually offer its devices here. So I figure it’s worth keeping an eye on what Meizu’s up to, just like Xiaomi and Oppo, among others.

      1. Some of us in the US like to know what is going on in the rest of the world.

    2. If you want to use smartphone on At&t network but don’t want to pay for 3G/4G data but only uses wifi then you might be interested.

    1. This would make a nice Ubuntu UMPC if I can really do all the things in Ubuntu Touch as I can on a desktop Ubuntu PC on the go (ie. not just in docked mode). I’ll look into what Ubuntu Touch offers when a UMPC like device comes out with the OS.

  2. Oh the octa core that’s really just a wimpy quad with a wimpier quad tacked on for power saving?
    Price is not value folks.

    1. Used to be pretty bad, but they’ve really stepped up their game over the last year. Updates 2-3 times a month. And yes, as below, a huge support community in China; outside, not so much. But if you’re looking for open bootloaders, alternate ROMs, vanilla Android-type experiences…this isn’t it. On the positive side, Flyme is one of the smoothest, most attractive, and radically reimagined Android ROMs out there.
