Chinese phone maker Meizu is continuing to show that phones with entry-level prices don’t have to have entry-level specs. Or maybe it’s that entry-level specs are better than they used to be… or that entry-level prices are lower than they used to be.
Anyway, the Meizu M2 Note is a phone with a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a 64-bit processor, and 2GB of RAM. And the phone will sell for about 799 yuan ($130) and up in China.
The phone features a Sharp IGZO display panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch-resistance, a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, and 16GB to 32GB of storage (the 32GB model will sell for 999 yuan (about $160).
Meizu’s phone will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop software with the Meizu Flyme OS custom user interface. It has dual SIM card slots and supports global 4G LTE networks.
The Meizu M2 Note has a 3,100 mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash, a 5MP front camera, and if you don’t need two SIM cards, you can use the second SIM card slot as a microSD card slot for removable storage.
While Meizu primarily sells its phones in China, the company does offer some models internationally through the MeizuMart online store. It’s not clear whether the Meizu M2 Note will be one of those models. Even if it isn’t, this phone should support 4G LTE on many networks around the world, so if you buy one from a company willing to ship an M2 Note from China, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to use it in other countries.

still no radio specs and overpriced by $70 PASS
based on the first model I am not holding out high hopes for US based LTE bands.. if it at least had Band 4 and it sold for a reasonable markup ($150) I’d be in for one..ideally I need Band 12, 17, and 4.

This sounds really great in yuan but they always take 6 months to get to that price, For ex. the Chuwi Vi8 was announced for $82 in Nov. 2014 launches for $120 and came down to the announced $82 just weeks ago. So for the realistic $200 price tag I’m inclined to say you’d be better of with a used Note 3 or S4 according to size preference.
And a Samsung OLED wins over any LCD any day.

They seem to have topped out at 5.5 inches – the 6 inch phones are pretty rare. I don’t have a problem carrying the 5.5 in my pocket, but I suppose if you still have a tiny phone, these probably seem huge.

Now we are talking. Economy of scale driving price down. Hopefully we will see an army of sub $200 phones. They are good enough. I have an s5 and will be out of contact this year. I think I am not swapping phones any time soon.

I bought a moto g (2013) for $24. But it is locked to Verizon prepaid, has no sim card or sd card and is 3g only.
Still amazed at what the phone can do for the price. You could buy this instead of an iPod
One of these companies needs to figure out a viable business plan for me:
I just want a good camera and battery for as cheap as possible. I don’t need a blazing CPU or anything aluminum finishes. I don’t need a high end screen. 720p is fine.
And I suspect other people are in the same boat (moms, grandparents)

Lol. Then it’s a pretty crappy business plan. The profit margin for low/mid end phone non-existence. It’s use mainly to increase your brand recognition, just like point and shoot camera.
