The first phones running Ubuntu software are expected to ship this year, and Chinese phone maker Meizu and European designer BQ are showing off the first two Ubuntu phones this week at Mobile World Congress.
Meizu’s MX3 is a 5.1 inch phone that’s already available with Android, but an Ubuntu version will launch this year. The phone has a Samsung Exynos 5410 Octa CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8MP camera, and an 1800 x 1080 pixel display.
The folks at GizChina’s Spanish site got a chance to spend a moment with the Ubuntu version of the phone at MWC, and they’ve posted a hands-on video comparing it with an Android version of the phone.
The BQ Aquaris meanwhile, features a 4.5 inch display and a 1.2 GHz MediaTeak ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor. It’s expected to feature 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
Unfortunately the demo units BQ is showing off at MWC this week are non-working prototypes. But the phone does have a slick looking design with ronded corners and largely flat sides and back panels.

Liked the video, phones are getting so good.
Since it’s Ubuntu, I’m really hoping to see a well performing terminal friendly slider.
