Chip maker MediaTek is adding another low-power processor to its Helio line of smartphone chips.
The new MediaTek Helio P20 is said to be 25 percent more efficient than the Helio P10, while offering about 20 percent more performance and adding support for up to 6GB of LPDDR4X memory.
The new chip is a 16nm processor with 8 ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit CPU cores clocked at up to 2.3 GHz, and ARM Mali-T880 graphics clocked at 900 MHz and capable of powering up to two displays with 1080p resolutions at 60 frames per second.
It also supports LTE Cat.6 connectivity for download speeds up to 300 Mbps and uploads up to 50 Mbps.
MediaTek says the move to LPDDR4X RAMÂ offers 70 percent more memory bandwidth and a 50 percent power saving.
Other features include support for dual SIM cards and an integrated image sensor with support for 24MP cameras, dual phase-detection autofocus and image noise reduction technology.
MediaTek says devices featuring the Helio P20 processor should begin shipping in the second half of 2016.
