Unihertz plans to launch a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign soon for a modern phone with some retro-inspired features including a BlackBerry-style physical keyboard. The upcoming Unihertz Titan Slim will be the latest in a line of unusual phones from Unihertz, which has made a habit of releasing niche smartphones aimed at fans of old-school features like small screens and QWERTY keyboards.

In other recent tech news, the Google Pixel 6a seems to have passed through the FCC recently, suggesting an official launch could be near. After two years of strong growth, PC shipments declined a bit in the first quarter of 2022. Microsoft appears to be readying a new version of its entry-level Surface Laptop Go with a newer processor but the same $549 starting price. And the founder of Pebble explains why the smartwatch company failed five years after kicking off the smartwatch market with a wildly successful crowdfunding campaign. (Some die-hard fans are still using their Pebble watches even today thanks to third-party services like rebble.io).

One reply on “Lilbits: The latest Unihertz BlackBerry clone, why Pebble failed, and a dip in PC shipments”

  1. I am excited about the Titan Slim. I pre-ordered the Titan pocket, but I was disappointed by it. The keyboard layout, mixed with the shape of the device made it difficult to type on and hold. Since this appears to more closely mimic the blackberry Key2, and Key2 LE, I am optimistic that it will be better. I’m still not crazy about the modifier keys being above the rest though.
Also, I initially thought that the square screen wouldn’t be a problem, but it does bring out some compatibility issues with certain programs.
