Before AYA and AYN unveiled handheld gaming PCs with starting prices below the $300 mark, Anbernic announced it was working on a cheap Windows handheld called the Win600. We still don’t actually know that much about it, but while the company hasn’t announced specs, pricing or a release date yet, Anbernic has released a video showing that it’s got enough horsepower to handle Nintendo Wii emulation.

Meanwhile that AMD Mendocino chip that’s going to be under the hood of some of the cheapest upcoming handheld gaming PCs (and some cheap Chromebooks and Windows laptops)? While it has an integrated GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture that delivers better graphics performance than previous-gen Ryzen 3 series chips, it’s not really designed for gaming, as some leaked benchmarks indicate.

Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3E (CM3E) is an unannounced system-on-a-module with a 1 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, 8GB storage, and 512MB RAM on a SODIMM-style stick with a 200-pin edge connector. via CNX Software.

  1. I hope Adobe also releases a free version of Lightroom.

I’ve been a longtime user of Lightroom, and I own the final version they made before it became a subscription service. I absolutely will not pay a subscription fee for it.

    1. I honestly can’t imagine how anyone would want to do anything with a Windows handheld after the last foray Microsoft made into the mobile market or the garbage ARM variant of Windows 10/11 they still try to con people using SBCs into using that offers no benefits over a typical unix like system on those platforms but comes with the additional and infuriating complexities that are the yield of using a closed source OS that has been decade upon decade of lazy developer nonsense stacking upon itself and falling over only to have more promised features that never get finished slapped on top on it. Registry alone on an ARM platform that is already pretty underpowered, oh yeah sounds like the way to go! Fast, you don’t need fast.

Then again I also couldn’t imagine being so afflicted with escapism as an adult as to want to regress to carrying around a handheld video game system with me so I can escape when ever and where ever I happen to feel the urge. Maybe bring a Kindle around with you instead and if you don’t just read twilight fan fiction on it, you might actually improve you ability to escape to the more interesting life you probably crave and seek out in tedious and repetitive games and various other regressions into childhood or subtle acts of resistance against your own impotence to affect your surrounding world. Then when you would drool in front of your main rig, maybe try doing something you find rewarding but is some how active in ways exceeding drooling as you shoot the same stupid 12 year old over and over in some first person shooter that is obviously not making you any smarter and you still can’t catch a ball so what are you gaining from wasting away precious life doing that exactly? Try wood carving, remembering to actually water your plants or even do something related to code if in front of computer time is a must for you.

Then again, I’m the weirdo that actually did read and realized that our ancestors where ever they were from would work in conditions that today would kill most people just so they could acquire their most basic needs and that whatever maladies plague the multitude probably relate to our bodies not having to endure as much sending to our subconscious that “oh shit something is definitely all fucked up” signal to such an extent we normalize it consciously thus develop escapist fantasies some stupid bastards act on, turning themselves into homeless people in RVs for unrealized and vague notions of the freedom of having no where to go. It’s more fun to just pretend you’re fine and do nothing to satisfy your danger seeking, hungry for injurious labor side then die alone in a nursing home because at least you made 5th prestige torturing those children playing the same game as you.

  2. ARM Cortex-A53 processor, 8GB RAM??, and 512MB RAM on a SODIMM-style stick

    u mean 8GB eMMC flash not 8GB RAM ?
