NVIDIA’s working on a tablet with a Tegra K1 processor. It’ll probably run Android and let you play Android games or stream PC games over the internet from your computer, letting you play desktop-class games on the couch or on the bus.
We’ve known all of that for a while, even though NVIDIA hasn’t had much to say on the topic. Now the BBC has a new report that’s interesting not so much for new details (like the idea that NVIDIA will offer an add-on game controller) but for its analysis (the upcoming tablet might not be expected to sell well… it might be more of a showcase that NVIDIA can use to convince other companies to use its Tegra K1 in chip their products).
Here are some tech news stories from around the web.
- NVIDIA’s upcoming Shield Tablet will work with separate controller, stream PC games
The report doesn’t refer to the Shield Tablet by name, but that’s probably what we’re talking about here. [BBC] - Dell is having trouble keeping its Chromebook 11 in stock, stops taking orders online
Microsoft may think you should buy a Windows PC instead… but enough people are interested in Dell’s only Chromebook that the company is making it a bit tougher to order one (to make sure it’s got enough inventory for the education customers the Chromebook was built to serve). [PC World] - Console OS meets its Kickstarter funding goals, plans to bring a (better) version of Android to PCs
It won’t be the first effort to run Android on PC hardware, but Console OS aims to do it right by offering Android 4.4 KitKat support for OpenGL ES 3, 3.1 and OpenGL 4 (eventually), the ability to import your Android apps and games, and a dual-boot option for Windows 8.1 systems. Â [Android Police] - XBMC 13.2 beta 1 released
They’re fixing bugs and taking names. OK, mostly they’re fixing bugs. [XBMC] - Looks like the Xiaomi Mi4 could be the company’s first phone with a metal body
Xiaomi will unveil its next smartphone on July 22nd. It could shed the plastic design of its predecessors. [TNW]

I’d sooner believe that Dell simply didn’t anticipate the demand than some junk about saving them for education.
If you have a product that is popular the thing to do really is SELL IT.
Make more and sell them.
There are many strange things going on in the computer market that make you scratch your head. How can Microsoft legally give away Windows based on screen size and charge others for it? Why are Chromebook inventories kept low artificially? Why does Samsung play the half-hearted Tizen game? Why does Nvidia do so much to keep the Android world in turmoil with undelivered false promises?
