Lilbits (6-26-2014): Android L is here and the Moto 360 is coming

It’s been a Android kind of week, what with Google launching a developer preview of the next version of Android, introducing Android for cars and TVs, and selling the first smartwatches based on the Android Wear platform.

Motorola’s smartwatch isn’t available just yet, but it’s one of the nicest looking smartwatches announced to date, and Motorola is showing it off this week. Here’s a video overview.

  The Moto 360 smartwatch should ship in a few weeks, making it the first Android Wear smartwatch with a round watchface. Here’s what it looks like in action. [Motorola Mobility]
• Ouya now offers 840 games, has 36 thousand developers, and is working on next-gen hardware
  A year after launch, there are hundreds of games available for the $99 Android game console, and the developers say the launch of the Xbox One and Playstation 4 haven’t affected sales at all. [TechCrunch]
• Microsoft Mobile passes a phone through the FCC (Goodbye Nokia?)
  Now that Nokia’s phone division live at Microsoft, expect to see the Microsoft Mobile name on more FCC documents in the future. The latest phones still have the Nokia brand name though. [FCC]
• LG to launch a next-gen version of webOS in 2015, include it on all high-end smart TVs
  LG is already shipping smart TVs powered by the software it acquired from HP (which acquired it when the company bought Palm). Now LG is trying to attract developers to the platform and the company is already working on its next generation of webOS for TVs and other devices. [WSJ]
• Report: Asus to launch a smartwatch around September for $99 to $149
  As Samsung, LG, and Motorola launch Android Wear watches for $199 and up, Asus suggests its first smartwatch which will launch later this year could be priced much more competitively. [TechCrunch]
• HTC promises Android L updates within 90 days of getting the code
  Have an HTC One M7 or M8? HTC is promising to bring you the next version of Android within 3 months of getting the software from Google. Have another HTC phone? Good luck. [Android Central]
