There’s mounting evidence that Microsoft is preparing to launch new Surface hardware soon… like next month soon.

According to a new report from Windows Central, and apparently confirmed by The Verge’s sources, Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface Book 3 and Surface Go 2 in May.

The Surface Go 2 will most likely be available with a choice of Pentium Gold 4425Y or Core m3-8100Y processor, at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (and optional support for twice as much of each), and a starting price of $399.

But aside from a CPU spec bump, the new model is also expected to have a larger display than the original Surface Go, despite having a body that’s the same size. Shrunken bezels are to thank.

  1. I see no mention of Thunderbolt on Surface Book 3.
It would be a big mistake to leave it off

  2. I have the current Surface Go. One cool feature is the ability to use the free mobile versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint on devices with screens 10.1″ or smaller. Adding 0.5″ to the display will cost you a lot if you need to use Word, Excel or Powerpoint.

    1. It’s the same company making both the software and the hardware. So they may change the screen size requirement this time, why not? But it seems the Surface Go tries to compete more with the iPad Air than the base $330 iPad, so maybe this time you have to pay for Office.

I for one, welcome the increase in screen size. One of my two pet peeves with the original Surface Go was the little bit too narrow screen for my taste. The other was the irreplaceable battery, but I don’t have hing hopes they change that.

The Surface Go’s predecessor, the Surface 3 had a 10.8″ screen size with the same resolution rumored for the Surface Go 2, 1920 x 1280. That would give you 800 horizontal pixels at the same density as the big Surface Pros. I’d love that.

  3. The Surface Book 2 will most likely be available with a choice of Pentium Gold 4425Y

Seems to be a typo. Should be Surface Book 2, I believe.

    1. You corrected with a typo of your own… LMAO

It’s surface go 2 with the Pentium.

  4. Considering the Surface Go 2 LTE or the One GX LTE to replace my current Surface Go LTE.

I like that the One GX has a smaller footprint although it seems to be pretty thick. Also, seeing real photos of the GX, that red is very ugly. I hope they provide a matte gray/black option to appeal to the non-gamers like me or at least older gamers who grew have outgrown such aesthetics.

  5. Nice to the Surface Go 2 is the same small size. I was initially worried about the larger screen until I read the part that the device will be the same size.

I wonder if they’ll release the LTE version at the same time as the Wi-Fi version. For the Surface 3 and then the Go 1 I had/have, MS announced them around Spring time but the LTE version came out in the Fall/Winter time.

  6. The One GX is looking pretty nice so far, and it looks like a better size than the GPD Win Max, but if the d-pad is as bad as the teaser images showed, and there’s no Thunderbolt, then the Win Max comes out ahead basically by default. Keeping an eye on these two either way.

    1. I wonder if the controllers attach to those bottom side holes/grooves.

Anyway, I’m eyeing the One GX mainly because it’s a UMPC with built-in LTE. Not really the gaming aspect of it.

  7. Watch MS miss the mark again by using Intel 10th gen CPU in the SB3…

      1. Using that might (or might not) give them a really hard time with the EGPU in the keyboard though, assuming it uses a thunderbolt interface.
