The Asus VivoTab Note 8 is a Windows tablet with an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, and support for digital pen input.
That means you can use a special stylus to write or draw on the screen or hover over the tablet to move a cursor around, making it easier to use classic Windows desktop apps on a handheld device.
But not all digital pens are created equal — so mobile tablet expert Chippy from UMPC Portal decided to see how the pen on the VivoTab Note 8 holds up. Spoiler: pretty well.
Here’s a roundup of tech news from around the web.
- Asus VivoTab Note 8 digital pen, palm rejection, etc put to the test
The tablet is now available in the US for about $329. [UMPC Portal] - Microsoft says more than 200 million Windows 8 licenses have been sold
While Windows 8 sales are accumulating at a slower rate than Windows 7, that’s still a lot of licenses sold. [ZDNet] - Reports: Mediatek’s working on at least two ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit chips
It’d probably be bigger news if an ARM licensee said they weren’t working on a 64-bit chip at this point. But it’s still nice to hear. [GizChina] - Verizon’s new “More Everything” plans offer more data, lower rates… still cost a lot
Verizon’s new plans aren’t exactly cheap — but they might save you some money, or provide higher data caps for the same price. [Engadget] - Motorola CEO departing to become COO of Dropbox
The move comes at a time when Lenovo is in the process of acquiring Motorola from Google. [TechCrunch] - It’s official, Comcast and Time Warner want to merge and create the most disliked (biggest) cable provider in the US
The two cable companies don’t have overlapping footprints, so most customers will still probably have a choice of one cable provider in their area… but anti-trust regulators will probably still be looking at this very carefully. [Comcast]

Does anyone know if I can run Windows XP Tablet Edition on this thing. I want to recommend deploying them in my organization, but we run a proprietary medical form software that only runs properly on Windows XP or Windows XP Tablet Edition.
Looks like I’ll be getting the ASUS Vivotab Note 8 when it shows up on Amazon.
