LG’s newest smartphone is a doozy. The LG Optimus G is a Android 4.0 handset with a 4.7 inch, 1280 x 768 pixel IPS display. But HD screens on smartphones aren’t all that unusual these days.

What is unusual is to find a phone with a 13MP camera, 2GB of RAM, and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processsor.

The Optimus G also features a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 32GB of storage, and a 2100mAh battery which LG says is good for up to 15 hours of talk time. It features Qualcomm Adreno 320 graphics.

The phone supports 4G LTE mobile broadband, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS. It measures 5.2″ x 2.7″ x 0.3″ and weighs just over 5 ounces.

Engadget reports the Optimus G will sell for about $895 in Korea when it launches next week, but that’s the price for a contract-free version. There’s no word on how much the phone will cost if and when it goes on sale in the US, where it would likely have a lower starting price thanks to carrier subsidies.

LG says the phone will launch in “key global markets in October.”

  1. If I hadn’t just bought the Galaxy S3, I’d be tempted. This sounds like quite the superphone.
