It looks like the Samsung NF310 and HP Mini 5103 have some competition: They’re not the only netbooks avaialble with dual core processors and HD displays anymore. LG has introduced the X170 netbook which packs both of those options.

The LG X170 is available with either a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 single core or 1.5GHz Atom N550 dual core processor. It comes with a choice of a 1366 x 768 or 1024 x 600 pixel 10.1 inch display. The mini-laptop has 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics. It’s expected to sell for under $600 in Korea.

There’s no word on whether this netbook will be available in the US yet, but it’s nice to see companies delivering a few optional features that set their netbooks apart from the crowd… while you might suspect that in another year all netbooks will have dual core processors and HD displays, I suspect that we’ll continue to see single core, low resolution models. They’re cheaper to build and not everyone wants or needs the extra pixels smacked onto a 10 inch screen.
