LG’s new smartwatch with a round display launched in South Korea this month. Now the company says it’ll be available in select markets in Europe, North America, and Asia starting in November.
The LG G Watch R is an Android Wear watch with a 1.3 inch, 320 x 320 pixel plastic OLED display.
The watch features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 410mAh battery. It features a 9-axis sensor, a heart rate monitor, and an IP67 dust and water resistant case which can be submerged in up to a meter of water for up to a half hour.
LG is the second company to launch an Android Wear watch with a round face — but this model has a thicker bezel around the screen than the Motorola Moto 360. Ont he other hand, it doesn’t have a black bar like the one at the bottom of the Moto 360 screen which keeps the watch face from being a full circle.
I haven’t seen US pricing for the G Watch R yet, but it sells for about £225 ($360) in the UK. That price includes tax though. It’ll likely be cheaper in the States.
Someone HAS to make an App for this watch that looks and sounds like a flat tire being blown-up 😉
How does one do a pixel count on a circular display?
320×320 sounds like a square display.
You know, I never thought much of Smartwatches. The screens are just too darn small to be useful. But then I got a great idea! I’m gonna write an App to make Smartwatches look like a Rolex! A 99 cent App like that would be better than spending $5000 for a real Rolex or $50 for a fake one. I can see a big market for ‘Skins’ for watches like this. You could have a Rolex one day, a Breitling the next day, Tag Heuer or Breitling after that, or Swatch if you want to be casual. Women could change the color of their Smartwatch to match their outfit, fingernails or underwear without buying a new watch. They could be Chanel one day, Gucci the next day or Victoria’s Secret for Friday night partying.
If they had just made that bezel a turnable ring. Even just as a marked bezel like a normal dive watch – though it would have made an excellent control interface of some kind for the watch.
I just don’t think I can get with the faux timing bezel that doesn’t actually move thing.
