The LG G Pad 8.3 is an Android tablet with an 8.3 inch, full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, and at least 16GB of storage. The tablet has a list price of $350, but you can pick one up from Best Buy for $300.

Or you can hold out a little longer and wait for the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition. There’s an unannounced version of the tablet that’s expected to run Google’s stock version of Android.

Update: The (short) wait is over. You can now pick up the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition from the Google Play Store for $350.

Reddit member numerlo found source code for the LG-V510 on the LG website, and there are several mentions of “Google Play Edition.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen evidence LG is working on a new tablet called the LG-V510, but folks had previously guessed that this would be a Google Nexus device built by LG (much the way that the Nexus 5 is a smartphone built for Google by LG and the Nexus 7 is an Asus-built tablet designed for Google).

Instead, it looks like the LG-V510 will be more like the HTC One Google Play Edition or Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition: A device that features identical hardware to an existing product, but which runs the latest version of Google’s software without any serious modifications.

Google works with HTC and Samsung to make the latest versions of Android available for Google Play Edition devices, but it’s up to device makers to actually distribute the software to users. That means Google Play Edition devices get Android updates pretty quickly… but not quite as quickly as Nexus devices.

Incidentally, the LG-V510 source code is based on Android 4.4.1 KitKat at the moment, while the LG G Pad 8.3 that’s available for purchase in stores runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Still, the LG G Pad 8.3 is a pretty nice tablet, sporting a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a speedy processor, 2GB of RAM, front and rear cameras, and weighing less than 12 ounces. I’m sure there are plenty of folks who wouldn’t mind a version running stock Android.
