Lenovo may be working on a 7 inch Android tablet for release later this year, complete with the usual Android 3.0 tablet specs including a dual core ARM-based processor and 1280 x 800 pixel display.

Let that sink in for a second. The tablet will reportedly have specs similar to the Motorola XOOM, Acer Iconia Tab A500, or Asus Eee Pad Transformer. But while those tablets all have 10.1 inch displays, the upcoming Lenovo tablet may have a 7 inch screen.

Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb actually looks great on high resolution displays, so I’m not too concerned about tiny text that’s too small to read in the core OS… but I do have to wonder how web pages will look in the browser, and how third party apps which weren’t designed for such sharp displays will look.

The information about the upcoming 7 inch tablet comes from a leaked product roadmap. There’s always a chance that it may never see the light of day, or that Lenovo could alter some key specs before releasing the tablet. But it’s interesting to see that the upcoming 10 inch LePad (known in the US as the Skylight) isn’t the only consumer model Lenovo is working on.
