Lenovo ThinkPad T430u

Lenovo is rolling out an update to its T400 line of thin and light laptops. The Lenovo ThinkPad T430u is a new business-class ultrabook.

The laptop has a 14 inch display, supports processors up to an Intel Core i7 chip, and can handle up to 1TB of storage with a hard drive or solid state disk. It measures just 0.8 inches thick, gets up to 6 hours of battery life.

Like other ultrabooks, the ThinkPad T430u has Intel’s quick resume technology. But there are a few features that make this model stand out.

It has the Lenovo TrackPoint system, for one thing. For another, Lenovo will offer a choice of Intel integrated graphics or NVIDIA switchable discrete graphics.

Lenovo says the laptop weighs less than 4 pounds, which actually makes it pretty heavy by ultrabook standards. But I think we’re going to get that buzzword abused a lot in the coming months. The T430u does fit into the ultrabook category in one important respect. It’s not ridiculously expensive. Prices will start at $849.

Unfortunately the ThinkPad T430u isn’t expected to start shipping until June, 2012.

  2.  Is this thing as rugged as the other T series notebooks?   MIL-SPEC and all that.

    1. Doubt it. Lenovo has been slapping the Thinkpad brand on everything.  The Thinkpad bar has been lowered significantly.

      1. Actually they’ve been addressing the complaints that some models have been getting.  Like they made a point to show that the new X130e addresses the durability issue of the X121e that it’s set to replace.

        They’re just experimenting to fulfill the present desire for thinner and lighter systems and reaching a balance isn’t always easy to make.

  3. Oh Lenovo, please, please, please, PLEASE put a hi-res panel on this.  THIS is the computer I have been lus… I mean waiting for, literally my entire adult life.  I would put a second mortgage on the house.

    I hope someone at lenovo is listening.

    1. Seriously! I’m sick of these 14″ “professional” laptops having the same screen resolution as my sister’s 11-inch netbook.
