One of the biggest surprises at CES last  month was the fact that Lenovo was one of the most exciting companies to watch at the event. I’m not used to thinking of Lenovo as exciting, but there’s no other way to describe some of the products the company introduced at CES, including the Skylight smartbook, IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook with a removable tablet computer, and even the LePhone, a smartphone which looks unlike anything currently on the market.

But it looks like the company may not be done wowing us. Lenovo posted a message on Twitter this afternoon teasing us with a promise of “exciting products to announce this month.”

There’s no real indication of what those new products may be. But Lenovo included a link to a video (embedded below), which takes us on a walk down memory lane, reminding us that the first ThinkPad devices was actually a slate PC, not a notebook.

Could that mean that Lenovo has a new ThinkPad-branded tablet up its sleeve? Maybe. But there’s a lot we still don’t know. Will it have a keyboard? Will it feature a detachable keyboard like the U1 or an integrated keyboard? Will it run Windows 7 or the Skylight operating system? Or is Lenovo just tossing us the tablet video throw us off course, with the real products having nothing to do with tablets at all?

  1. well this is because lenovo makes it which is much better then apple. your actually paying for quality materials, and construction, not pretty colors and rounded edges. These thinkpad x200’s are amazing machines, they are the kinda laptop you just toss on your bed from 10 ft away, or throw into a backpack without paying any attention…. cuz….. you can, and there is nothing to worry about.

    1. While Lenovo does make some nice machines, with all due respect, Apple’s durability and craftsmanship is at least on the same level. Their aluminum unibody laptops are almost bulletproof.

Before you flame, please bear in mind that this is coming from a FORMER Mac user, not a fanboy. But this is the one area where Apple doesn’t deserve the negativity. HP, Dell, Acer, and a lot of other OEM’s deserve to be knocked for build quality more than Apple.

To bring this discussion back to netbooks and tablets, I have been incredibly impressed with Asus build quality of late. My T91MT is very solidly constructed and lightweight at the same time. This goes hand-in-hand with Asus wanting to be “Another Apple”.

  2. The new Thinkpad X201 notebooks will be announced this month, including the X201 tablet. But this product refreshment is hardly “exciting”, so let’s hope for something else from Lenovo.
