When Lenovo first showed off the Skylight smartbook earlier this year, the mini-laptop featured a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM-based processor and a custom Linux distribution called Skylight. After deciding to scrap the operating system and use Google Android instead, Lenovo put the Skylight on hold for a while — although it’s still due out before the end of the year. Now it looks like there could be an upside to the delay, because it gives Lenovo time to swap out the processor for a newer, more powerful chip.
DigiTimes is reporting that Lenovo has decided to use a new 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor in the Skylight. As earlier reported, the smartbook should ship with Google’s Android operating system.
The report also mentions that Toshiba, which recently introduced its first smartbook with an ARM-based chipset and Google Android operating system, also has two ARM-based tablets in the works, and that those could be released by the end of the year. Taiwanese OEM Pegatron is said to be building the tablets for Toshiba.
