Lenovo LePad K2 GLBenchmark results

It looks like someone’s been running benchmarks on the next-generation Lenovo tablet. A few days ago we discovered that Lenovo is working on a new tablet which will have an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 2GB of RAM.

Now we also have a first look at the tablet’s performance and name. The Chinese model will likely be called the Lenovo LePad 2, which means that in the US the company will probably market the tablet as the IdeaPad K2. It also looks like the tablet may have a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, much like the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A700.

That makes sense, since Lenovo currently offers an IdeaPad K1 tablet with a 10 inch screeen, Tegra 2 processor, and 1GB of RAM.

The new information comes from the GLBenchmark website. When you use the free benchmarking tool to test the performance of a phone or tablet, the results are uploaded to the web for the world to see.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the actual results. They do show the tablet outperforming a device with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor. But the benchmark tests don’t necessarily reflect real-world performance, especially since the Tegra 3 processor will be the first quad-core chip available for a mobile device. There’s really nothing to compare it with… at least not until Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Freescale release their quad-core ARM-based chips.

    Really?  I foolishly believed that part of the appeal of a laptop is mobility, and I thought that we already had quad-core laptops.  This reinforces my suspicion that many people don’t know what they’re actually try to say and what distinction they’re trying to make when they use a term like “mobile” to describe a “tablet”.

    1. There is a valid distinction between portable and mobile in the modern market. 

      A mobile device is something that is usually pocket-able, or at least can be easily carried with one hand, and can easily be used on the go. 

      While portable is something that is generally at best cumbersome to be used on the go and is mainly just easily carry-able and mainly meant for stationary use, without otherwise being tied to one spot.

      So laptops, by and large, fall into the portable category.  Besides, referring to mobile devices also includes all types of mobile devices like Smart Phones and for them then the Tegra 3 is one of the first quad cores.
