Lenovo’s latest 2-in-1 tablet looks familiar… and it should, because the new Lenovo Miix 520 tablet is basically what you’d get if you scooped the guts out of last year’s Miix 510 and replaced them with 2017-era components.

Instead of a 7th-gen Intel Core processor, the new model is powered by an 8th-gen chip.

But both models are 12.2 inch tablets with full HD IPS touchscreen displays, detachable keyboards, and support for an optional active pen.

The new model will be available with up to an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and up to 1TB of PCIe solid state storage.

Thanks to far-field voice recognition, you can use Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant when you’re up to 13 feet away from the tablet. And optional features include a fingerprint reader and 4G LTE modem.

The tablet and keyboard combined measure about 0.6 inches thick and weigh about 2.8 pounds, and the keyboard features full-sized backlit keys with 1.5mm of travel.

Without the keyboard, the tablet is 1.9 pounds and 0.4 inches thick.

Lenovo says the Miix 520 will be available in Europe in November for €899 and up. In the US it’ll sell for $1000 and up starting in October, but it’s worth noting that the US price includes a keyboard and pen.

I should point out that the entry-level model has a 7th gen Intel Core i3 dual-core processor. Intel hasn’t released 8th-gen Core i3 or Core M chips yet.

  1. This looks very intriguing. I’ve been interested in Lenovo’s Miix lineup, but they just don’t seem to make a model for me.

The Miix 310 was far too low-end for its price point. I ended up buying the Asus Transformer T102 instead. It had double the RAM and Storage for the same price. Even if they beefed up the specs, I wouldn’t pay any amount of money for how plasticy and cheap the 310 felt.

The Miix 510 was such an enourmous leap in price, build quality, and specs, but they completely passed me over. $299 for the 310, and starting at $1000 for the 510. The body/chassis of the 510/520 is really nice. I just don’t need such a powerhouse.

I’d be interested in a Core M tablet with 8gb RAM, 128gb SSD, 1080 resolution, and Thunderbolt 3, for around $599-699. I’ll drool all over that Miix 520, but I’m not paying $1000 for a tablet. I’ll buy a 2nd-hand Surface Pro before I buy a $1k tablet.

    1. Depends on where you live.
If you’re outside of the USA and Canada, Surface Pros become really slow and expensive devices.

Things like the Miix 510 are cheaper than USA and Canada on the international market.

Same goes for phones; Galaxy S, Note, iPhones are significantly dearer than the competition in the international market compared to the US.

      1. I’m not buying something as expensive as a Miix 510 on the international market. I wouldn’t spend more than $300 on something that doesn’t have a warranty that is valid in my own country.
