The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 is an Android 4.0 tablet with a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display and a 1 GHz TI OMAP 4 dual core processor. It’s up for order from Lenovo’s website, and it’s expected to ship any day now.

Like any device with wireless capabilities, the S2109 has to pass through the FCC before it can be sold in the US, and that’s exactly what the tablet did this week. You can now peruse drawing labels and test results at the FCC website — although they won’t really tell you much that we didn’t already know.

Lenovo IdeaTab S2109

The S2109 is an interesting little device, since it’s one of the only Android tablets from a major company to sport a 4:3 aspect ratio screen. Some folks will probably prefer that screen size for reading books, surfing the web, or a few other activities — but most Android apps are designed for widescreen displays and some may not look right on the IdeaTab S2109.

I got a chance to play with the tablet briefly a few nights ago, and it’s a nice looking device that comes with a protective cover for the rear and sides. It has the same processor as the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet, and feels at least as responsive — and not much heavier.

If you’re in the market for the S2109, you might want to wait for a sale before plunking down any cash though. Right now Lenovo is charging $389 for a model with 8GB of storage. But a few weeks ago it was selling for $311. I expect it will be discounted again soon.
