Lenovo IdeaPad YOGA

Lenovo is introducing a new convertible tablet-style notebook called the IdeaPad YOGA. While notebooks that transform into tablets are nothing new, the YOGA takes an unusual approach. You just push the screen back 360 degrees and fold the laptop as if you were closing the lid — but the “flip-and-fold” design means that the screen will now be accessible.

The computer has a 13.3 inch multitouch display and an unusual hinge that lets you not only use the YOGA as a notebook or a tablet, but which also lets you prop up the computer using the keyboard like a kick-stand. That way you can watch videos, read recipes, or perform other activities (which, to be fair, you could also probably perform in laptop mode).

The notebook has an Intel Core processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and a solid state disk with up to 256GB of storage. It as a 1600 x 900 pixel display with a capacitive touchscreen, and it’s designed to run Windows 8.

The IdeaPad YOGA measures 0.67 inches thick and weighs 3.1 pounds.

Lenovo says the YOGA notebook will be available in the second half of 2012 for $1199 and up. If we’ve learned anything from past CES events though, it’s to take these radically unusual designs from Lenovo with a grain of salt. I know plenty of people that are still waiting to get their hands on an IdeaPad U1 Hybrid.
