The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 is a laptop computer that turns into a tablet when you push the screen back 360 degrees so that it’s parallel to the keyboard. Lenovo first introduced the concept at CES in January, and now it’s almost ready to ship.
Starting October 12th, you’ll be able to pre-order the IdeaPad Yoga 13 for $1099 and up. It will start shipping when Windows 8 launches on October 26th.
The IdeaPad Yoga features a 13.3 inch, 1600 x 900 pixel IPS display, an Ivy Bridge (3rd generation Core family) processor, and supports up to 8GB of memory or up to 256GB of solid state disk storage.
Lenovo’s convertible qualifies as an ultrabook and measures 13.4 x 8.9″ x 0.66 inches while weighing in at 3.4 pounds. That makes it pretty light for a laptop, but pretty heavy for a tablet.
Thanks to the unusual design though, you can use the touchscreen whether holding the Yoga 13 as a tablet, setting it on a desk or table like a laptop, or in a all-in-one desktop-like configuration by folding the screen 270 degrees and standing the machine up on a table, using the keyboard as a sort of kick-stand.
The laptop has 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, an SD card slot, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1MP camera, and stereo speakers.
If the Yoga 13 seems a little too big, a little too expensive, or a little too powerful for you, Lenovo will also offer a Yoga 11 with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, Windows RT operating system, and a starting price of $799.
