We already knew the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet would be launching soon, but up until now we didn’t know just how soon. After all, it’s been reported as having shown up at various retail sites around the web. However, according to a press conference held today in Japan the tablet will be launching globally tomorrow, July 20th. Oddly enough, while the news came out of Japan, the tablet won’t be available in that country until August.
The IdeaPad K1 will launch with Android 3.1 Honeycomb and features a 10.1 inch, 1280×800 pixel display, 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 2MP rear and 5MP front cameras, 802.11b/g/n Wi-FI, and Bluetooth 2.1.
Lenovo is also set to launch the long-rumored ThinkPad tablet. The device will also have a 10 inch display, NVDIA Tegra 2 processor, and Android 3.1 operating system. But according to some photos accidentally posted to Picasa earlier today, it looks like the ThinkPad tablet will also support stylus input.
The company has removed the photos, but you can still find some at Italian site Netbook News.it. The photos show the IdeaPad and ThinkPad tablets, including accessories such as colorful case covers, a keyboard dock for the IdeaPad K1, and a docking station and stylus for the ThinkPad tablet.
I played with the Ideapad K1 last Sat at my local Office Depot for about an hour. It worked pretty well. Screen was ok but of course not as good as the Samsung. Speakers were better than most other tablets. Other than that, it worked well but nothing markedly different than all the other android tablets. When in landscape mode, I kept accidentally pushing the home button and that drove me a little crazy.
To clarify, there is a physical home button like on iPhones, etc that is right where your thumb rests when holding the Ideapad in landscape mode.
I like the look of the think pad tablet except for the physical buttons. Hopefully more specs will come out. Im interested in knowing dimensions weight and battery life. Also wonder if the screen will be IPS and if the think pad will retain the think pad build quality from their laptop line.
nice new colours i hope it will be new colours as soon as possible
