Asus is expected to push a firmware update for the Eee Pad Transformer tablet soon, bringing the new and improved Android 3.1 operating system to the tablet. But if you’re the impatient type, it looks like you can install Android 3.1 today. A leaked copy of the update is already making the rounds.
Android 3.1 is an incremental update. You won’t find your tablet unrecognizable after updating. But the OS update should bring better graphics performance, an improved web browsing experience, and a few new goodies such as support for up to 16 items in the recent apps menu and resizable homescreen widgets.
I’ve tested Android 3.1 on the Motorola XOOM, but haven’t had a chance to test it out on the Eee Pad Transformer yet. Fortunately the folks at Hot Hardware have, and they’ve put together a pretty good overview. Their experiences are pretty similar to mine. The new operating system is more responsive — but it doesn’t score much higher in most benchmarks.
