Samsung and Google have been pretty chummy lately, with Samsung manufacturing a few of Google’s flagship Nexus phones over the past few years, as well as the Google Nexus 10 tablet with a high-resolution screen and ARM Cortex-A15 dual-core processor.

Now SamMobile reports that relationship is going to new places with a new Nexus tablet that’s bigger and faster than any released so far.

According to a leaked product roadmap, the Nexus 11 would have a Samsung Exynos 5410 octa-core processor with 4 ARM Cortex-A15 CPU cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores. The slower Cortex-A7 cores consume less power, and they’d kick in to help prolong the tablet’s battery life when you don’t need the more powerful Cortex-A15 components doing their thing.

The Nexus 11 is also rumored to feature a 2MP front-facing camera, an 8MP rear camera, and an 11 inch, Super PLS TFT display.

The Google Nexus lineup consists of devices that run the latest available Android software from Google without any custom skins or other tweaks. But Google doesn’t build Nexus phones or tablets itself, instead partnering with companies such as Samsung, HTC, and LG to build the products.

So it’s not surprising to see the same leaked product roadmap mentions a Samsung Galaxy Tab 11 with similar specs, but a less powerful Exynos 5250 ARM Cortex-A15 dual core processor. That’s the same chip used in the Nexus 10, but this tablet would have a larger screen than the Nexus 10. And unlike the Nexus 11, it would likely feature Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface as well as other Samsung apps including the company’s app and media stores.

SamMobile says we can also expect a Galaxy Tab 8.0 tablet with a 1080p display and a Galaxy Tab DUOS tablet with a 7 inch screen and dual SIM card slots this year.

Like any leaked roadmaps, it’s probably best to take all of this with a grain of salt. Not only can the information be incorrect, but there’s always a chance that Samsung or Google could change plans before releasing any of these devices. But SamMobile has a pretty good track record with this kind of thing.

  1. A couple inches larger and we’ll finally have a screen nearly the size of letter-size paper. And then my wallet will be lighter.

  2. I want one. I’m holding out for an Android 5 device anyway, and the next Nexus is likely to be the first of those.

    1. Will there ever be a 5″ Android tablet (not a phone)? Because right now, it seems like they have every size imaginable between 7 and 13 but nothing smaller than 7. I too would be interested in such a device.

  4. You know the marketing weasels are gonna push it as “8 CORES ZOMG”, but I like the idea. I just hope the implementation works out. I have a laptop that has an nVidia graphics card and an integrated graphics card for the same stated purpose, “to save battery when you don’t need much processing power”. However, the technology used to switch is not perfect and as such I usually don’t get nearly the amount of performance I would expect from the nVidia graphics card.

    Hopefully (if this is even true) hackers would figure out how to have the more powerful cores always enabled.

    The other more curious item is that the leak also comes with TouchWiz attached. I just don’t see Google allowing TouchWiz on a Nexus-branded device.

    1. It doesn’t say that – it says “the same leaked product roadmap mentions a Samsung Galaxy Tab 11 with similar specs”. Under that, it mentions TouchWiz, but for the Galaxy Tab, not the Nexus.

  5. Looks like Samsung is really out to dominate the tablet and phone arenas by covering as many market segments as possible. All this coverage makes life very hard for Apple and everyone else. Samsung is flexing its formidable manufacturing muscle and vertical integration muscles. Maybe the only thing that can stop the Samsung juggernaut is North Korea.

    1. Um, yeah. If I were to subscribe to your “reasoning,” then I would expect Apple to be in an obvious death spiral. That isn’t the case. The iPhone holds its own against Samsung in the most profitable market segments, despite a succession of Samsung offerings. And the iPad, which by most measures, is only about one year behind the iPhone in terms of growth, has an even stronger position.

      I really don’t understand why people get so crazy about tech companies. I guess its like sports, or religion?
