As promised, the folks at Brainchild have begun shipping a 7 inch Android tablet aimed at students. The Brainchild Kineo has an 800 MHz dual core processor, 256MB of RAM, 2GB of storage, and an 800 x 480 pixel display. It runs Google Android 2.1 and supports Adobe Flash Player.

The tablet’s not going to set any speed records, but it does have USB and HDMI ports and Branchild says it can run for up to 10 hours. The most important thing is that this tablet isn’t designed for casual use. Instead it’s designed to be used in a classroom setting, and lets teachers load education-oriented apps and web sites while restricting access to games and other distracting features. They also come preloaded with software for synchronizing the data on the tablets with a classroom computer.

The tablets have a rugged design to stand up against the abuse they’ll inevitably suffer at children’s hands.

Brainchild has already delivered 5,000 Kineos to school districts in 10 states.
