Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy Tab 10.1N in Germany. It’s a slightly modified version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a plastic bezel which extends over the sides of the tablet to make it look a little less like an Apple iPad 2.
The new design came after a German court decided that Samsung’s original 10 inch tablet did look too much like an iPad and issued a preliminary injunction banning the company from selling that model in Germany.
Apple wasn’t impressed and tried to get an injunction against the Tab 10.1N. So far they’ve failed.
Today a German judge ruled that the new version of Samsung’s tablet is different enough to avoid infringing on Apple’s design rights.
This doesn’t necessarily put the matter to rest, since all that was at stake today was a preliminary injunction. The court is scheduled to issue a final ruling in the case on February 9th.
