A few months ago I checked in on the progress of the Jisus netbook from Van Der Led. Over the past year the company had announced three separate netbooks, but as far as I could tell none had come to market yet. Apparently my email inquiry got lost in the shuffle because I finally got a response today.
In a nutshell, it looks like Van Der Led decided to scrap the Jisus line, at least for now. The company’s board of directors determined that the netbook line just doesn’t stand out from the crowd of other VIA C7-M and Intel Atom-based mini-laptops. So the company is taking Jisus back to the drawing board and hopes to put out a more innovative device in the future.
What a shame. I had really hoped that their plans to customize the shell would eventually extend to more usable surfaces like neoprene or at least into more data coming out about heat retention concerns with such designs. Oh, well.
too bad, we might have seen more of that old wallpaper. 😉
making netbooks, or for that matter, any kind of computer, stand out from the crowd is a real challenge these days. computing have really become ubiquitous, it seems…
