Earlier this month Intel launched its 5th-gen Intel Core “Broadwell” processors for consumer devices. Now the company is adding 5th-gen Intel Core vPro chips to its lineup.
These chips are aimed at the enterprise market and Intel says they’ll enable new types of notebooks, 2-in-1 tablets, and mini PCs for use in the workplace.
Intel uses the vPro name to describe systems with a series of business-friendly features. In this case, Broadwell chips with vPro include Intel Pro Wireless Display technology as well as Intel Wireless Docking.
This lets you connect your portable computer to a display, mouse, keyboard, and other accessories quickly and easily without plugging in a single wire.
Security features include security features including disk encryption and identity protection the are built into the hardware rather than implemented in software.
Like the consumer versions of Intel’s new chips, the new vPro models also offer improved graphics performance, better energy efficiency for longer battery life, and modest general purpose performance gains over Intel’s 4th-gen “Haswell” chips.
Intel says 12 different PC makers including Dell, HP, and Fujitsu are offering ultrabooks, 2-in-1s, notebooks, and mini PCs with the latest Intel Core vPro chips.
