intel atom logo2Intel is expected to launch its next-generation Atom processor lineup starting in the 4th quarter of 2009. The lineup will include a dual core desktop chip as well as a line of mobile chips aimed at netbooks which will use less power while providing slightly better performance than today’s Atom N270/N280 chips.

Now Fudzilla reports that Intel expects these new chips, codenamed “Pineview” to be around for at least a year or so. Intel reportedly plans to phase these new chips in over the next few quarters, and while the company may introduce new iterations of the Atom processor down the road, it looks like the goal is to continue producing and selling Pineview-based chips through at least the end of 2010 if not longer.

Of course, this news is hardly surprising. After all, the Intel Atom N270 CPU was first introduced in mid-2008, and a year a later it’s still once of the most common chips found in low cost netbooks.
