Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD is a 7 inch tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel display. a 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4 dual-core processor, and the same basic specs as last year’s model.

It’s not exactly a state of the art tablet, but with prices starting at $139, it’s pretty cheap.

The folks at iFixit took one apart to see what it looks like on the inside, and they found it’s also relatively easy to repair yourself if you don’t want to send your cheap tablet in for repair and end up spending more money to fix a broken device than it costs to buy a new one. kindle fire hd teardown

Amazon updated the tablet’s case, moving power and volume buttons to the back edges.  But what iFixit really likes about the tablet is the fact that you can open the case and start pulling out the internal bits without any special tools.

The battery could be relatively easy to replace — assuming you can find someone selling a spare 16.43 Whr battery designed to fit in the tablet case. T

he glass panel is also easy to separate from the display, which should make it relatively easy to replace a cracked screen without ordering an expensive new LCD panel, although you may need a heat gun to melt some of the adhesive glue holding it in place.

Other tidbits confirmed in the teardown include the fact that the tablet has 8GB of flash storage from Toshiba, a TI OMAP 4470 ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a Synaptics touchscreen controller, 1GB of Micron RAM, and Broadcom BCM4430 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth module.

    1. What device and browser are you viewing the site on?

      It’s usually a tendency of a mobile browser, viewing the mobile version of the site, to go right up to the margins to maximize text size for small screens like phones… desktop mode will usually fix this if viewing from something larger like a tablet…

      1. It’s an issue with my big machine…Firefox ’24’. My Nexus 7.2 is showing a better page, also using Firefox…

        1. Strange then, I’m using FF 24 too and the text isn’t coming up to margins for me… We’ll see if anyone else reports a similar issue but it may be just a issue with your system…

          2. I’ve heard from at least one other person with the same issue, but I haven’t been able to duplicate it in Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer so it’s tough to figure out what could be causing the problem.

            Are you running any plugins that can change the behavior of a website such as adblock?

          3. AdBlock doesn’t have any effect. It goes away when I maximize a window,
            and it’s unique to Liliputing pages.(I’m searching for ANOTHER website that
            does that, but with NO LUCK…)
