The HP Slate6 VoiceTab and HP Slate7 VoiceTab look like Android tablets, but function like Android phones. As expected, they’re launching first in India, where you can now pick up the 6 inch model for 22,990 rupees, or about $368.
HP’s 7 inch model should be available soon.
HP has been absent from the smartphone space since it pulled the plug on its webOS products a few years ago. But phones and tablet sales are growing at a time when the traditional PC market is stagnant. So it makes sense for HP to give things another go.
By focusing on the emerging Indian market, HP is targeting growing demand for affordable mobile devices without competing with dominant players like Samsung and Apple in a market that’s already saturated.
As for why HP’s first two Android phones feature enormous displays… I have no idea.
